Pallet Racking Design

Getting your racking design right from the outset determines how much stock you can store, how efficiently your team can pick and replenish, and how safely your warehouse operates day to day. Logical Storage Solutions provides a full pallet racking design service for new-build warehouses, extensions, and existing sites being reconfigured. We work from your pallet data, throughput figures and building constraints to produce a racking system design that makes the best use of every metre of available space.

What We Consider in Every Design

  • Pallet types and dimensions. Standard, Euro, or non-standard pallets each affect beam spans, bay widths, and racking configuration.
  • Load weights and pallet counts. Maximum unit loads and total pallet volumes determine upright, beam, and frame specification.
  • Forklift and MHE reach. Aisle widths are set around the turning circle and lift height of the handling equipment you already run or plan to buy.
  • Throughput and pick frequency. Fast-moving stock is positioned for quick access; slower stock is designed into higher-density storage.
  • Floor loading and building constraints. Column spacing, floor capacity, roof height, and any existing structure shape what a layout can achieve.
  • Fire regulations and sprinkler clearance. Designs are built to leave the clearances your insurer and local fire regulations require.

Our Racking Design Process

  1. Site survey and data gathering. We measure your space and gather pallet types, stock volumes, turnover rates, and MHE specifications.
  2. Layout options. We produce initial layout options showing the pallet positions achievable against your current and projected stock volumes.
  3. Design refinement. We refine the preferred layout with you, balancing storage capacity against aisle widths, picking routes, and future flexibility.
  4. Compliance check. The final design is checked against SEMA guidance and relevant building and fire regulations.
  5. Drawings and specification. You receive a scaled layout drawing and full component specification, ready to quote and install.

Why Choose Logical Storage Solutions for Pallet Racking Design?

  • Experienced in-house design team. Every layout is produced by our own team, not outsourced, so you deal with the people who understand your project.
  • SEMA-compliant by default. Designs are built to current SEMA guidance and UK health and safety requirements from the outset.
  • Built around your operation. We design around your pallet data, MHE, and throughput, not a generic template.
  • One team from design through to installation. The same business that designs your racking installs it, so nothing is lost in handover.

Pallet Racking Design FAQs

We've answered some of the most popular questions about pallet racking design below.

For any other queries, or to get a free design and quote, please call us on 0845 689 1300.

What Information Do You Need To Design My Racking Layout?

We need your warehouse dimensions, pallet types and sizes, maximum load weights, stock volumes, and details of the forklifts or other MHE you use or plan to use. The more detail you can provide, the more accurate the initial layout options will be.

How Long Does The Pallet Racking Design Process Take?

For most projects, initial layout options are ready within a few working days of receiving your site information. More complex sites, or those requiring a full site survey, may take longer.

Will My Design Meet SEMA And HSE Requirements?

Yes. Every design we produce is checked against current SEMA guidance and relevant UK health and safety and fire regulations before it's issued.

Can You Redesign An Existing Warehouse Layout?

Yes. We regularly redesign existing sites to increase capacity, improve pick efficiency, or accommodate a change in stock profile. We can work with your existing racking or plan a full reconfiguration.

Do You Provide CAD Drawings And Specifications?

Yes. You'll receive a scaled layout drawing along with a full component specification, so you know exactly what is being proposed before any work is quoted.

Is There A Cost For The Design Service?

Design is provided free of charge as part of a quotation for supply and installation. Call us on 0845 689 1300 to discuss your project.
