Should I Invest In Office Partitions?

Office partitions are a versatile solution to utilising your existing space and creating a more productive and efficient workspace.

There are several types of office partitions, which can be used for different applications. For example, glazed partition systems can be used to create the feel of a more open and modern space, whereas plasterboard partitions can be used to create more private rooms or areas.

If you are considering investing in office partitions, but are not sure whether they will be worth it, then read on to discover some of the benefits of office partitions to help you determine whether or not you should make the investment.

Better than construction work

Using office partitions to transform your workspace, rather than undergoing construction work, is typically more cost-effective, will take less time, and will cause less disruption to your business.

With office partitions, they are constructed elsewhere then installed within your workspace, so it will not become a building site. There will be less mess and you usually will not have to evacuate the premises whilst these are being installed.

No need to worry if you are renting

If you are renting, you probably do not want to invest too much into the workspace you are using, plus you may not get permission to undergo construction work. You are unlikely to need permission before installing most kinds of office partitions.

Plus, they can often be easily removed without leaving any damage, so you won’t lose your deposit. Modular partitions could even be taken with you if you choose to move your business elsewhere.

Can be used to divide or create rooms

A large open space can be overwhelming, and as an office space it can be difficult to know how to best place desks to maximise space, and with a lot of workers it can become noisy.

Using office partitions, you can divide up a large room to make sure you are utilising the space effectively. You can have segregated areas for different departments, for example. This will help with laying out your office and to reduce disruption and noise levels.

Partitions can also be used to create smaller rooms, with doors. You could create individual offices or meeting rooms, for example.

You could use glazed or solid partitions, or a mixture of both, depending on whether you want to keep the feel of an open space, or would prefer to have more privacy.

Provide privacy

If you have an open space, it may be difficult to find a private area for meetings and breaks where you will not be seen or heard. Using partitions, you can easily create private spaces or rooms for private meetings and personal time.

Can be moved

Some partitions can be made to be freestanding so that they can be easily moved to suit changing requirements.

These can more easily be transported should you relocate, or can be moved around your workspace depending on where you need privacy, or to change the layout of your workspace.

Whether you’re thinking of carrying out a complete refurbishment, opening new premises or you simply need to create more efficient workspaces within your current office or warehouse, Logical Storage Solutions are here to help.

8 things to consider before investing in mezzanine flooring

A mezzanine floor is a partial floor that is added to premises that have high ceilings and provides extra space which can be used for office space, retail space or storage. Although a mezzanine floor can look amazing and provides vital space, there are some things you should consider before you make your purchase as it is a big financial decision that needs sufficient planning.

1. Check building regulations
Although the majority of mezzanine floors do not alter the exterior building and therefore do not require planning permission, this is not always the case. Check you do not require planning permission before moving ahead with the project. The rules vary significantly depending on your area and what type of building you have, for example, if your building is attached to someone else’s building or if it’s a listed building. If you do not ask first whether you need permission and it ends up having to be removed, it will be costly for your business in both time and money. If you are in doubt, check with your local authority.

2. Available height
The main measurement you must make is whether your ceiling is high enough to accommodate a mezzanine floor.

3. Size
Take into account the size of the floor you want to install, the size of the room and the size of the items you want to place on the mezzanine flooring. If you do not consider all of these measurements now, you will not be creating a mezzanine floor that matches your exact needs and makes the most of the additional space you could be creating.

4. Purpose
Before you start your mezzanine project, make sure you know exactly what its purpose is going to be. If its office space or storage, it will have an impact on its design and also how much weight the flooring has to support. These are all key considerations at the design stage.

5. Design
There are many interesting things you can do when designing a mezzanine floor so ensure you make the most of the space available. For example, if you are using the floor as office space, you could incorporate storage or bookcases into the balustrade that prevents people from falling over the edge.

6. Fire Safety
If adding a mezzanine level makes your business a three story premises, you will need to consider additional fire doors which again need to be factored in at design stage.

7. Temperature
As heat rises, the mezzanine flooring is at risk of becoming very hot. This will potentially have an impact on what you are storing if it is temperature sensitive. Also, if you are using it as office or retail space, you will need to consider what additional measures you will have to invest in in order to ensure people do not get too warm. This includes fans or an air conditioning unit.

8. Accessibility
If you are using the mezzanine floor as storage, you need to ensure people can access the items with ease and without compromising their safety. You need to ensure a secure handrail is provided and people are not carrying big or heavy items down the stairs.

This checklist should not deter you from getting mezzanine flooring as it can provide amazing additional space. However, by considering the list above, you will ensure that you have considered exactly what you want to gain from the flooring, meaning you are getting the most value from your investment.

3 ways you could improve your warehouse operation starting today

Every warehouse is different and while there is no one way to do things, there are some common issues that we encounter that if tackled correctly have been proven to help businesses do even better. Here are three ways that you can improve the day-to-day running of your warehouse operations starting today.

1 – Organisation

For a business to thrive, their warehouse needs to be clinical in its operations. This means reducing wastage wherever possible, and a well organised warehouse is the key to doing just that. You should turn a critical eye to every action that takes place in your building on an average day and look for ways to speed things up. This could be something as simple as better managing your available space through storage solutions like shelving and racking, or a large-scale change like installing a mezzanine floor to house state-of-the-art machinery.

2 – Commit yourself to Health and Safety

Many businesses view their Health and Safety responsibilities as a burden. However, good Health & Safety management not only shows your employees that you care, but also helps your bottom line. If you cut down on accidents like slips and trips, then you can drive down the number of sick days your employees take off work to recover. Even the smallest of trips can cause long-term damage to your workers who may then develop recurring health issues. What’s more if there is a serious accident at your site and you are proven to have failed in your duty of care then you could risk heavy fines as well as damage to your reputation. Start now with a racking inspection.

3 – Look after your staff and they will look after you

Following on from getting a firm grip on your Health and Safety duties, another way that you can reduce the amount of sick days your employees take is to ensure that your warehouse is a positive place to work. Investing in your employees by providing them with a place to eat their lunch, toilets, a rest area or even just providing them with extra space to carry out their duties can make a big impact on their morale and make them work even harder for you. Take a look at our office partitions for inspiration.

Here at Logical Storage, we know that no two businesses are the same and you may need a combination of different solutions to help optimise your warehouse.  For a tailored proposal designed to meet the specific needs of your business, call us on 0845 689 1300.

How to improve your employees break area

We all get to the point in the day where we need a break; in fact it’s essential in order to catch our breath and work out our priorities for the remainder of the day. However, for many businesses the break area is a space which often comes very low on the list of priorities. If renovation is going to happen then it will more frequently take place in client facing areas such as reception areas, meeting rooms and bathrooms. However, with so many businesses suffering from high rates of absenteeism among their employees, it makes perfect business sense to begin investing in their health and well being. Having a comfortable, clean and functional break area is a good place to start.

The essentials of a staff break room are of course, tables, chairs and some kind of cooking facilities – even just a kettle, microwave or fridge. However, many businesses today often take their break areas a step further incorporating leisure activities like ping pong tables, pool tables and even electronic gaming machines. Together with comfortable furniture and a relaxing colour scheme, these types of changes can make a big difference to the morale of your employees who know that they have somewhere to relax after a particularly stressful morning. Extra added touches not only keep your current employees satisfied but also provide an extra ‘feather in your cap’ when showing job candidates around your premises. How better to show that you genuinely care about the well being of your employees.

If your company operates within an open plan area such as a warehouse then you may believe it would be difficult for you to create such a break area, however with the use of office partitions or mezzanine flooring, it can easily be done. Mezzanine floors can be built quickly and make the most of overhead space that would normally be wasted, while office partitions can be an ideal solution for a private lunch area with glass or normal wall partitions. What’s more, both of these types of solutions can be customised and erected as temporary structures should the need to relocate your business arise in the future.

Here at Logical Storage we know that no two businesses are the same and you may need a combination of different solutions to help create space in your warehouse.  For a tailored proposal designed to meet the specific needs of your business, call us on 0845 689 1300.

How to reduce absenteeism among your employees

Having your employees call in sick is part and parcel of running a business, but does it really have to happen so frequently?  Here we look at some ways that you can reduce absenteeism in your workforce.

While there are obvious ways to reduce illness from spreading amongst your employees such as improving workplace hygiene and ensuring that employees remain off work until they are no longer contagious, there are other ways that you can reduce absenteeism which can have a real impact too.

Making your business premises a pleasant place to work can pay dividends in terms of the morale of your employees and thus the amount of sick days that they tend to take.  When looking at how you can reduce absenteeism and look after your employees there are three key areas that you should focus on – organisation, health & safety and morale.

A workplace which is poorly optimised puts needless pressure on your employees making them work harder than they need to.  This is why it is important to periodically review your processes and see if there are any opportunities to streamline your operations and relieve some pressure.  Consider using mezzanine floors to house new machinery, assembly lines, workspaces or innovative racking and shelving solutions.

A workplace which is dangerous and has faulty equipment puts your employees at risk of injury.  If you don’t carefully follow guidelines then you risk serious accidents occurring which could put employees out of work beyond just a few days at a time. Protect your workers and your reputation by carrying out regular risk assessments.

Finally, research shows that employees who enjoy their working environment are less likely to fall ill and phone in sick to work.  So take a look at how you can improve your surroundings. Consider office partitions which can be used to create a bright, well lit area where you and your employees can take a well earned break.

3 ways to optimise your warehouse for the year ahead

Good management is the key to making sure that your warehouse can meet the demands of your clients and customers in the months and years ahead. This means not only ensuring that your employees work in a safe and practical manner but also that your warehouse is well organised to cope with the ebb and flow of seasonal trade.

As we begin 2017, many business owners will be looking at how best they can achieve their targets and goals for the year ahead. Here at Logical Storage we have extensive experience putting together combinations of storage solutions for businesses that help them to do exactly that.

One of the first examples of how a business can benefit from our storage solutions is that of a mezzanine floor. Continually one of the most popular solutions available, a mezzanine floor helps to maximise the space already available to you in your warehouse, reducing the need for relocation and allowing you to make more efficient use of your space.

Office partitions provide another route for improving your operations in your warehouse. An office partition can provide you with the space you need to conduct important meetings with clients and customers, make private phone calls, a space to do paperwork or create an area for your employees to take their lunch.

A third way that you can make the most of the room in your warehouse is to consider racking and shelving solutions, which are a fantastic way to better organise your inventory.  An experienced storage provider can help you to choose a system which is best suited to your operations, be it pallet racking systems like wide aisle or dynamic push back, or shelving solutions like carton flow and longspan.

Here at Logical Storage we know that no two businesses are the same and you may need a combination of different solutions to help create space in your warehouse.  For a tailored proposal designed to meet the specific needs of your business, call us on 0845 689 1300.

Why choose a glass office partition?

Whether you have moved to brand new premises and you need to make them more efficient to suit your needs, or you feel that your current office or warehouse is tired and outdated, office partitions are a clever way to remodel a workspace.

There are many different options for office partitions, which include aluminium demountable partitions, standard stud and track plasterboard, steel partition systems and glazed partitions. It is the latter which we are going to look at in some more detail in this article.

Glazed partitions are a noticeable way to transform your working space into a contemporary office, with plenty of light and space. They also provide you with privacy in the form of frosted glass or blinds and can reduce noise for discretion when meeting with employees or clients or making external phone calls.

They can therefore help you to achieve a well laid out and professional office, which can have a big impact on your staff and your clients, and can make your business more efficient and more productive in the long run.

Some of the key points about our fully or partially glazed partition systems are:

  • They are constructed from toughened glass
  • They utilise a stud and track system
  • They feature colour coded edge beading to match corporate colours or interior decor
  • They can be fitted with venetian blinds in a range of colours

How can you create more space in your warehouse this year?

A lack of space in a warehouse can prove troublesome to businesses. Not only can it reduce the amount of stock you are able to hold, but it could also prove dangerous for employees if their working space becomes restricted too. Creating additional space in your warehouse can be achieved through the following methods and can help you towards a safe and more efficient warehouse.

Mezzanine floors are a perfect example of how you can make better use of existing space. A mezzanine floor is an intermediate level between the main floors of a building. It is erected independently of a building’s main structure and is supported by steel.  As a mezzanine floor sits between floors, it makes the most of space that would otherwise be unused and can help to provide extra storage space, additional processing areas or even office space.

Office partitions can be set-up to provide an area to do paperwork, conduct meetings and phone calls or even as a space for staff to take their lunch breaks – freeing up additional areas of your warehouse for storage.

Another key way to make more room is to ensure that the racking and shelving that is being used is the one that is best suited to that businesses operation. For example factors like the type of stock kept, the volume of it and how often access to it is needed, can all play a part.

A lack of space can provide a constant headache to many warehouse owners.  However, in many cases, more space can be created by simply making better use of the space that is already available.

Here at Logical Storage, we know that no two businesses are the same and you may need a combination of different solutions to help create space in your warehouse.  For a tailored proposal designed to meet the specific needs of your business, call us on 0845 689 1300.

How could your business benefit from office partitions and sound proofing?

If you are considering refurbishments to make your workspace more efficient, then an office partition might be suitable for you. But what are some of the advantages that come with choosing one?

Whether you operate from a retail unit, warehouse, office or from within your home there are many advantages to installing an office partition. Privacy can be one important factor in your decision to install an office partition. If you are in need of somewhere isolated from the rest of your warehouse, for example, then an office partition can provide you with a closed-off space to do your paperwork free from distraction.

One of the key reasons for installing an office partition can be the need to have somewhere to bring clients and customers for meetings. Having somewhere that looks professional and conveys the right image can be very important if you want to leave a good impression.

You might need the sound proofing that office partitions can bring. Phone calls, interviews and meetings can all be conducted in confidence and noisy machinery can be blocked out for your own comfort.

Another reason for installing an office partition can be to save money as they are able to be installed in a short space of time with minimum fuss, rather than relocating elsewhere which incurs extra expenses and time.

Office partitions are not only stylish and cost effective; they can also be very adaptable to your needs.  Here at Logical Storage we provide office partitions with a wide range of customisation opportunities.

From doors, frames and blinds to ironmongery, sound proofing and fire rating, our partitions can be tailor made to meet your specific requirements.
